Who We Are
Elevating the collegiate experience with honor for more than 100 years
Welcome to Phi Eta Sigma, where we foster a culture of excellence for college students. We offer a wide range of opportunities for students to grow and expand their horizons. We’re proud to serve a diverse student population and believe in investing in our students' success both academically and personally.
Our organization is built on a foundation of celebrating student success and creating a supportive community that will help our members excel in all areas of their lives.
Our Story
Phi Eta Sigma was founded on March 22, 1923, to encourage and reward high scholastic achievement among members of the freshman classes at the University of Illinois. Since that time we have grown to an organization with more than 1.3 million members and a 100-year history of elevating the college experience through involvement in the honor society.
With more than 175 active chapters across the nation, Phi Eta Sigma students are part of a thriving network of scholars that are committed to the ideals and values of Phi Eta Sigma. We believe in celebrating success; in creating opportunities for individual development; in cultivating a community; and in generating a culture of care.

In 1940, Phi Eta Sigma established its Founders Fund to award scholarships to students at the national level. Since that first award of $300, Phi Eta Sigma has awarded more than $6.6 million in scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate and graduate education. This year, Phi Eta Sigma will award $300,000 in scholarships at the national level.
Our Mission
To elevate the honors experience as we celebrate the nation's best and brightest students, create exceptional opportunities for holistic development, and cultivate a rewarding community by generating an intentional culture of care.
