Hotel + Event Information
About the event
Do I need to make my own hotel arrangements?
Yes, convention attendees make their own hotel reservations. The official hotel and site of the convention is The Westin Birmingham on Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard. The hotel room rate is $164 per night using this code: Please use this link to book your hotel reservation: Hotel Link (https://book.passkey.com/event/50275635/owner/9950830/home)
When should I get to Birmingham?
If you are attending our pre-convention event you should plan to arrive on Thursday if possible as the event will start early in the morning. Those close enough to drive to Birmingham may be able to drive in very early on Friday morning to attend the event, but it is unlikely a flight will land in Birmingham early enough on Friday morning to make it for the trip.
If you are not attending our pre-convention event, being in the hotel and ready for activities by 5 p.m. is the goal. Landing by 3 p.m., to allow for travel from the airport to the hotel, check in and preparing for the evening, is advisable.
When should my departing flight leave?
The convention closes at lunchtime on Sunday; booking a morning flight out of Birmingham will result in missing the final day of convention content.
How can I get from the airport to the convention site?
You can get to the hotel from the airport by booking a shuttle service, cabs, or the ridesharing apps consistently service the Birmingham airport, which is just 5 miles from The Westin Birmingham. Visit here for more information regarding to ground transportation from the Birmingham Airport.
What is the dress code?
All events at the 2022 National Convention will be held under a business casual dress code with the exception of our Friday night dinner and opening reception at TopGolf, where the dress code will be casual. There will also be opportunities for exercise where causal wear is encouraged.
What meals are provided while at the convention?
A box lunch on Friday will be included for attendees on the pre-convention trip. Convention registration includes dinner Friday night, a continental breakfast on Saturday, lunch on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday. Saturday evening’s dinner is more independent, with several restaurants within a couple of blocks of the hotel to choose from.
Is there an age requirement?
Yes, all convention attendees must be at least 18 years old to attend.
Can I bring guests?
No, the Phi Eta Sigma National Convention is exclusively for student members, chapter advisors, and volunteers. Only registered attendees will be allowed to participate in Convention programming. This includes but is not limited to our ceremonies, workshops, and special events.
I transferred to another school that doesn't have Phi Eta Sigma but was inducted at my previous school. Can I still attend the National Convention?
No, convention attendance and registration are limited to active undergraduate student members and their chapter advisors, and student members who wish to attend must have their registration authorized by their chapter's advisor. Therefore, if a member transferred to another institution without an active chapter, even if they are still an undergraduate, they would not have the ability to seek approval from a current chapter advisor and as a result could not attend.
I was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma at my undergraduate institution but have now graduated and enrolled in graduate school. Can I still attend the National Convention?
No, similar to the answer above, our convention programming is for current undergraduate members and advisors, so members in graduate school are not allowed to attend as well.
