Delegates attending the 2004 National Convention and Leadership Workshops in Savannah, Georgia, approved the Thomas Arkle Clark Scholar-Leader of-the-Year Endowed Scholarship, named in honor of the founder and first Grand President of Phi Eta Sigma. This $10,000 award will be presented yearly to the member who, in the judgement of our Scholarship Committee, best exemplifies the ideals of Phi Eta Sigma and will be chosen from those scholarship applicants who indicate that they would like to be considered for this recognition.  This scholarship was presented for the first time for use in the 2006-2007 academic year.

The $10,000 scholarship will be payable in two installments: one-half for the fall semester and one-half for the spring semester after the submission to the national office of an official college/university fall semester transcript documenting full-time study with a GPA of 3.5/4.0 or higher. Full-time study is defined as nine or more graduate hours of credit or twelve or more undergraduate hours of credit.

This being another major Phi Eta Sigma award initiative and in keeping with our tradition, Society chapter leadership is a major requirement. Documentation such as newspaper articles identifying the applicant and Phi Eta Sigma as participants in special events or projects, letters of appreciation to the applicant for campus or civic activities, etc. in support of the Founders Fund application comments are encouraged. Applicants should list junior/senior level memberships in, for example, departmental honor societies, Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Beta Kappa, etc. on the application. Clark applicants not selected will be automatically considered for endowed graduate or undergraduate scholarships.
